Piesie Esther, professionally known as Piesie Esther, is an award-winning Ghanaian gospel singer, songwriter and worship minister whose music and ministry are rooted in faith, testimony, gratitude and a deep desire to draw people closer to God.
Born on 3 June 1981 in Tamale, Ghana, and raised largely in Nsuta-Atonsu in the Ashanti Region, Piesie Esther grew up in a Christian family with a strong musical and church background. Her parents are reported as Grace Adu and Ransford Owusu, and she is one of five children. She completed her junior high education at Atonsu S.D.A. before her musical journey began to take a more serious direction.
Music was part of her life from an early age. Growing up in the Church of Pentecost, she participated in church singing and began developing her vocal gift through church and school activities. Piesie Esther has spoken about coming from a family with several gifted singers and how her early experiences in church helped shape her passion for music and ministry.
At around the age of 16, she moved to Kumasi, where she continued developing her musical abilities. Her early professional experience included working as a backing vocalist for veteran gospel musician Georgia Adjei, popularly known as Mama Georgia. It was through this period in Kumasi that she encountered Rev. Asamoah Boateng, also known as Apae Live. She subsequently became associated with the Great Light Worship Centre, where her career began to take a more significant professional shape. Rev. Asamoah Boateng produced her first two albums.
Her professional recording career began in 2002 with the release of her debut album, Apae Ama Me. The album marked the beginning of a recording journey that would span more than two decades. She followed it with Me Nte Ase in 2008, a project that earned nominations at the 2009 Ghana Music Awards for Gospel Artiste of the Year and Gospel Song of the Year.
Piesie Esther continued to build her catalogue with projects including Ziba Beko in 2011, Agye Won Nsem in 2016 and the worship project Osoreɛ Mu Tumi in 2017. Across her body of work, her songs have consistently explored themes of worship, thanksgiving, perseverance, faith and God's faithfulness.
Her personal journey has also strongly influenced the message behind her music. Piesie Esther has openly shared stories of the financial hardship her family experienced while she was growing up. Her parents were farmers, and she has recounted periods when life was extremely difficult for the family. She has described those experiences as important parts of the testimony that shaped her faith and outlook on life.
One of the most significant chapters of her career came with the release of “W'ayɛ Me Yie”, a song that became a powerful expression of thanksgiving for how far God had brought her. The song was particularly significant because it reflected her journey through two decades of gospel music and the challenges she had experienced along the way. She described the song as a summary of her 20-year journey in the industry and a reminder that, despite everything she had encountered, God had been good to her.
The impact of “W'ayɛ Me Yie” translated into major recognition at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. Piesie Esther won Gospel Artiste of the Year and Gospel Song of the Year, marking one of the biggest award moments of her career. The recognition established her as one of the leading female voices in Ghana's contemporary gospel music scene.
Her momentum continued into 2024 when she was named Gospel Act of the Year at the 3Music Awards. The recognition followed a period of increased visibility for her music and ministry and further affirmed her place among Ghana's prominent gospel artistes.
Her ministry has also taken her beyond Ghana. Over the years, Piesie Esther has ministered and performed in several international destinations, including the United States, Canada, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, connecting with Ghanaian and Christian audiences beyond her home country.
In 2025, Piesie Esther continued her musical journey with new releases and collaborations. She collaborated with France-based Ghanaian gospel artiste Navah Music on “Onokwarefo,” a song whose title means “God is Faithful” in Twi. The collaboration was released in July 2025 and centred on gratitude and God's faithfulness.
She also released “Nyame Ye,” produced by Kuami Eugene, in 2025. The song became part of another important chapter in her evolving catalogue and was subsequently recognised at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, where Piesie Esther won Best Traditional Gospel Song for “Nyame Ye.” She was also nominated for Best Gospel Artiste at the same ceremony.
Beyond recording and awards, Piesie Esther's identity as an artiste remains closely connected to ministry. Her music is not simply an artistic expression but a vehicle through which she shares her testimony, encourages people going through difficult seasons and points listeners towards faith in God.
Her journey from a young girl singing in church, through years of hardship and persistence, to becoming an award-winning gospel artiste with an expanding international ministry, is itself a testimony of resilience and faith.
Today, Piesie Esther continues to build on more than two decades of music and ministry, creating songs that speak to worshippers across generations while remaining grounded in the message that has defined her journey from the beginning: God is faithful, and every testimony has a story behind it.
Piesie Esther's music is ultimately an invitation to worship — to remember God's goodness, to remain steadfast through difficult seasons and to believe that the story is not over.
My music is my testimony, my worship and my way of pointing people back to God.”
I believe that music is more than a sound; it is a ministry. Every song I create is an opportunity to share the goodness of God, encourage someone who may be going through a difficult season, and remind people that God remains faithful.
My journey has taught me that the seasons we go through can become part of our testimony. The struggles, the waiting, the victories and the moments when God makes a way all have a story to tell. This is why I desire for my music to speak honestly about faith, gratitude, hope and the power of God.
As a gospel artist and worship minister, my greatest desire is not simply to receive recognition, but to use the gift God has given me to touch lives. Whether I am standing before thousands of people or singing to someone listening alone, I want the message to remain the same: God is good, God is faithful, and there is always hope in Him.
I want my music to create moments where people can worship, reflect, find encouragement and encounter God for themselves. Every stage, recording and ministry opportunity is therefore another chance to give God glory and to share the testimony He has placed in my heart.
My prayer is that when people hear my music, they will not only hear a song — they will hear a testimony, find hope and be reminded of the One who never fails.
